A Trip to England
Tuesday, 31st of September, my class, two teachers and I flew to London/Heathrow. We arrived there at midday and after we had picked up our luggage we drove to the school in Canterbury by bus. We got something to eat and then were brought to our host families. I was incredibly lucky because my host parents were very welcoming and friendly and my room was large.
On Wednesday it was our first day of school. We were separated into groups and my teacher’s name was Sally. The lessons were interesting and I definitely learned a lot. After one and a half hours we had a twenty-minute-break and then we had a one and a half hour lesson again.
After lunch we went to the old part of the city and we had to do a quiz about Canterbury. Finally, we got to eat dinner and were driven home.
Thursday afternoon we spent at Dover Castle which combines impressions from the middle ages (the Great Tower presents the interior of a medieval castle) and the days of World War II (a spectacular exhibition in the underground tunnels). We enjoyed the bright sunshine and the view over the sea. Back in Canterbury we went bowling which was a lot of fun.
Professor Krenn and Professor Wittner showed us Canterbury Cathedral on Friday after school. I was fascinated and I really enjoyed learning something completely new. After dinner we did a drum course which was a lot of fun too.
On Saturday we had to get up early because we drove to Cambridge. Cambridge is a lovely city, many young people live there because of its famous colleges. A tour guide showed us the most important buildings, for example the King’s College chapel. I was blown away by its architecture. After the tour my friends and I went for supper in a very cool pub.
We visited Leeds castle on the next day and we also watched a bird show there. It was a wonderful day, no clouds, just the sun shining. In the evening we spent some time with our host families and then went to bed.
In school we learned about the Canterbury tales and we went to the museum. Some students think that it was quite childish because of the statues and the noises they made. After dinner we did Karaoke and that was a lot of fun! Everybody was singing a song, even professor Krenn.
Tuesday was the last day of our wonderful trip. Before school I packed my suitcase, said goodbye to my host family and went to school. There we got a certificate with the best grade on it. At three o’clock p.m. we left Canterbury and flew back home to Vienna.
